Post-Conference Report

Thank you to everyone who made "The Sacred and the Sovereign" conference such a big success.  The Divinity School is honored to have hosted the event, which brought together distinguished speakers and a lively audience for a full day of analysis, debate and conversation on a wide range of issues relating to religion and political sovereignty. 

We are pleased to report that WBEZ Radio broadcast extended portions of the conference during the week of January 15 - 19, 2001.  The broadcasts were part of a week-long series on religion and international politics, presented on "Worldview," which airs weekdays from noon to 1:00pm CST on 91.5FM in the Chicago area.  You can listen to these broadcasts over the internet at your convenience by accessing the Audio Archive portion of the WBEZ web site.  (You'll need the Real Player to listen to the streaming media files.)  Our thanks to the producers and host of "Worldview" for presenting this scholarship to the wider public, and to Arthur Fournier and Billy Gordon at the University of Chicago for their assistance.  We hope the broadcast  will foster broader discussion on this important topic. 

This web site has drawn a consistent flow of visitors since the conference ended, and we'll make our best effort to keep it up to date with post-conference news in the media and elsewhere.  If you haven't read the recent articles about the conference in The Chronicle (Click to read it) or the Chicago Maroon (Click to read it), we encourage you to do so.  For those who asked about the conference poster, click here for a PDF version.  And, finally, we'd like to remind you that the Conference Reader is available in print; the essays it includes (many of which are also available online in the Background Reader section) are as relevant as ever.  We encourage you to pick up a copy to help you consider some of the important issues the conference addressed.
